ADCC – 2014

4th Annual Meeting Of Indian Chitin and Chitosan Society (ICCS)& National Conference On Application Of The Derivatives Of Chitin and Chitosan (ADCC – 2014)

22nd & 23rd AUGUST 2014, Gandhigram Rural Institute, Gandhigram, Tamil Nadu

4th Annual Meeting of Indian Chitin and Chitosan Society (ICCS) & National Conference on Application of the Derivatives of Chitin and Chitosan (ADCC – 2014) has been organized jointly by the Department of Chemistry, GRI, Gandhigram and Indian Chitin and Chitosan Society (ICCS) with an objective to have an interaction among the researchers, technologists, planners and government officials to discuss about the recent developments in chitin and chitosan research. Chitin is the second most abundant biopolymer in the world next to cellulose. Chitosan gathered wide attention in the fields like environment, agriculture, medicine/pharmacy, food science, biotechnology and nanotechnology, because of its bio-compatibility, bio-degradability and non-toxicity.

Dr. S. Natarajan, Vice-Chancellor of GRI, Gandhigram presided over the function and gave Presidential address. Dr. M. G. Sethuraman, Prof. & Head, Department of Chemistry, GRI, welcomed the gathering. Mechanics of the conference was given by Dr. S. Meenakshi, Prof. of Chemistry, GRI and Convener of ADCC-2014. A gist of Indian Chitin and Chitosan Society (ICCS) was conveyed by Dr. R. Jayakumar, Secretary of ICCS. Dr. Appa Rao Podile, Vice President of ICCS inaugurated the conference and delivered the inaugural address. The pre-conference proceedings was released by Dr. M. Sundaravadivelu, Dean Faculty of Rural Oriented Sciences, GRI, and the first copy was received by Er. Vikram Sudhakar, President of ICCS. The best faculty researcher, best student researcher and lifetime achievement award for those who have contributed a lot in the chitin chitosan research have been awarded.

150 delegates including members from Indian Chitin and Chitosan Society were participated in this conference. 95 research papers were received from various Universities, Colleges, research institutes and industries all over India. These research papers will be presented in two day national conference in different technical sessions viz., extraction of chitin and chitosan, applications in microbiology and enzymology, applications in food processing and agriculture, biomedical applications, environmental and chemical engineering applications and industrial applications. The resource persons includes academicians, technologists, industrialists, etc., and were drawn from various places of India, shared their rich experience in the area of chitin and chitosan research. 45 papers were selected for oral presentations and the remaining papers will be presented in the form of posters. The best six oral as well as poster presentations were awarded. A panel discussion with the experts is arranged to consolidate the recommendations suggested during the course of the conference. The arrangements were made by Prof. S. Meenakshi, the Convener of the conference with the help of other faculty members.
